About this service

How it works

  1. Create the service request from your matter and attach the procedure to be served.
  2. Receive an instant quote based on the type of service and the recipient's location.
  3. Pay securely; the file is assigned to a bailiff in the right judicial district.
  4. Track every attempt in real time until the affidavit of service (procès-verbal) is returned to your file.

Turnaround

A first attempt is typically made within 2–5 business days of assignment; urgent and multiple-recipient service is available at a higher rate. Hard-to-locate recipients may require several attempts.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between personal and corporate service?
Personal service is made on an individual; corporate service is made at a legal person's establishment or on an authorized representative. The correct mode depends on who you are serving and the procedure.
What do I receive as proof of service?
The bailiff returns an affidavit of service (procès-verbal de signification) recording the date, time, place and manner of service. It is filed in your case file and accepted by the court as proof.
What if the recipient cannot be found?
The bailiff documents each unsuccessful attempt. If the recipient cannot be located, alternative modes of service (for example, by a means authorized by the court) may be required — the bailiff will advise on the options.

Good to know

Service of documents is carried out by a court bailiff (huissier de justice), an officer of the court. Juge.ca routes and tracks the mandate; it does not itself effect service or provide legal advice.
